Kiley and Brent, married May 31 at Historic Riverview on the James

Kiley and Brent were married on a gorgeous Spring day in late May – the sun was shining and everyone had a wonderful time.  As all our couples are welcome and encouraged to do, Kiley and her bridesmaids enjoyed a relaxing time inside the Riverview house before heading down to the James River ceremony site.  Friends and family gathered at the ‘rivah’ for a heart felt, beautiful ceremony officiated by a close friend, Robb Hibbard.  Following the ceremony, guests made their way to the Riverview lawn to enjoy refreshments, games, and a Photo Booth in the gazebo.  A photo booth is a great way to create a memorable and FUN guest book. Innovative Catering provided a delicious spread for the reception.  After enjoying dinner, guests made their way to the gazebo for the desserts and cupcake-cutting (gazebo switched from photo booth area to a beautiful dessert area).  The day finished with fun dancing with family and friends!  Thank you, Kiley and Brent, for allowing Historic Riverview on the James be a part of your perfect wedding day! … Continue reading

Gentry and Dylan, married September 26 at Historic Riverview on the James

Gentry and Dylan are the most energetic, positive couple!  Talk about a busy couple – working multiple jobs, planning a wedding, and pursing a life as farmers (right up my alley, ha!). Despite the light sprinkles the day of the wedding, fun was had by all.  The couple was married on Historic Riverview lawn under the natural arbor, adorned with brilliant sunflowers.  Gentry wore the most beautiful dress, completed by a fantastic over the shoulder jewelry.  Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed a lively cocktail hour at the smokehouse (the most perfect environment when it’s raining or not!).  Guests then moved to the reception tent where they enjoyed delicious food catered by RA Bistro. Webb and Jessica, June 27 wedding at Historic Riverview on the James

Jess and her bridesmaids were stunning for this late June southern wedding – gorgeous photography by the talented Justen Clay (Justen Clay Photography).  The riverside ceremony took advantage of all the beautiful surroundings – the coupled opted for a natural aisle and natural arbor.  The intense greens of the Low Grounds riverside and rolling James River backdrop was all the setting needed to make it absolutely perfect.  The bride processed down the aisle to a beautiful harp played by Whitley Smalt. The couple greeted their guests from the fireplace during a fun, energetic cocktail time.  Flowers by Kaye Moomaw with Irvington Springs Farm adorned the reception tables.  Fainting Goat Catering Company brought their food truck (LOVE THIS!) for the reception dinner – outstanding! It was such a pleasure to be a part of this wonderful wedding – congratulations Webb and Jess! Pearson/Hutchings Wedding – June 21 wedding at Historic Riverview on the James

Lauren and David, both UVA grads, had such a great time celebrating with family and friends at their ‘Spain meets UVA’ wedding in June.  All the details were perfect, honoring their shared passion as Spanish teachers.  The ceremony took place on the lawn overlooking the James River.  Following this time, guests enjoyed a cocktail hour complete with fun photo booth. A fantastic dinner, hosted by Isabella’s Restaurant, was complemented by fine Spanish wines.  The couple danced the night away – Lauren and David , it was so fun working with the two of you! Padgett/Sutherland Wedding – June 14 wedding at Historic Riverview on the James

What a fun, energetic couple – thank you for allowing me and the staff at Historic Riverview be a part of your big day!  The evening started with an extended cocktail time by the river with bluegrass music, cocktails and appetizers.  The bridal party made their way to their guests by way of the Historic Riverview hay wagon – such fun!  Following the cocktail time, guests made their way to the reception tent for dinner and dancing.  Many thanks to Lauren and Alex for spending their special day with us! Christie and Andrew; married October 12 – Historic Riverview on the James

Fun, easy going, HAPPY couple – what a great day!  The grounds were in full Fall splendor with pumpkins and mums at every turn.  Although the day was a bit wet at times, these two had a day to remember always. A beautiful wedding was held at the river with a special touch of a foot washing incorporated into the ceremony.  Christie looked stunning and timeless in her mother’s wedding dress.  Following the ceremony was a cocktail time on the Riverview lawn with games, a photo booth, beverages and food.  When it was time to move to the reception tent all guests were ready to DANCE (note to brides and grooms…in my experience, I have found more guests dance, and I mean REALLY dance when it rains at a wedding than not…in other words, if you are looking for everyone to let loose and have a good time, rain isn’t such a bad thing – ha!).  Table arrangements were carefully designed by the bride and turned out perfect – what attention to detail!  Not only did Christie … Continue reading

Lauren and Rob; September 14 – Historic Riverview on the James

What a production!  The time, energy, love and long hours that went into making this wedding truly special and unique was off the charts!  The groom, Rob, and a handful of very skilled helpers pulled off a light show not only under the tent, but on the grounds, for everyone to remember. Kudos to Sam Hurd with Sam Hurd Photography for capturing such amazing shots that day! The ceremony took place overlooking the river on one of the most perfect Fall days.  Following the river ceremony, guests enjoyed cocktails from the smokehouse.  Many musically inclined guests partook in a type of jam session at the fireplace, complete with several guitars on stands for all to enjoy. From the photo booth at the gazebo to the disco ball inside the tent, no details were left out! What a fun couple to work with and happy to have the Richards in my life 🙂  Thanks to Lauren and Rob for the wonderful memories! Lang/Bevan Wedding; September 7 – Historic Riverview on the James

Congratulations Kristin and Charles!  Such a lovely couple married on a beautiful early Fall day with a ceremony on the lawn and tented reception, captured by the talented Eric Carlson of Eric Carlson Photography.  Stunning sunflowers popped against a vibrant shade of blue that set perfectly against the myriad of Fall green tones of the piedmont mountains.  The couple walked down the aisle to classic Celtic violin tunes which set the tone for a memorable time.  For dessert, all guests were happy and kept in consideration with allergy conscious choices homemade by Kristin and Charles’ family.  Love your family and friends Kristin and Charles – we wish you many, many years of happiness! Marshall/Mason Wedding; October 20 – Historic Riverview on the James

What a stunning bride Rachel was for her wedding to Graham at Riverview on  a beautiful Fall day.  Every detail was perfect!  As guests walked to the River Ceremony Site they enjoyed lovely ‘stations made of stumps, vintage chairs, and window frames with photos of the bride and groom for guests to peruse.  Apples, mason jars, delicate lace and burlap were among the many decorative elements.  The couple were married overlooking the James River which was breathtaking.  After a lovely ceremony, guests returned to the smokehouse and yard to enjoy a ‘bacon and soda hour’ and games in the lawn – always a good time had by all 🙂  The reception dinner was divine, all prepared by Charley’s Restaurant of Lynchburg (thanks Molly!).  After an evening of heartfelt moments, the Bride and Groom spoiled their guests with home-made desserts which were on display inside the gazebo (great job Tammy Mason – you are incredible!) What a fun couple with delightful family!  Thank you Rachel and Graham for allowing Historic Riverview on the James host your most special … Continue reading
