Amherst County Museum Tour at Historic Riverview on the James

Under an October sapphire sky with bright warm sunlight, Historic Riverview on the James hosted and celebrated a special tour of history.  On this fall afternoon, Southern hospitality and history took the stage. The Amherst County Museum’s Tour of History brought 40 guests of all ages. The opportunity to visit the 2 Virginia Historic Landmarks, also on the National Register of Historic Places on the family farm had been much anticipated by the Museum for a year. Guests warmed themselves sitting on the ampitheatre style wall while a “fireside chat” by the James, introduced them to the landmarks they would be seeing.  The Fort Riverview, Civil War redoubt, and the Six Mile Bridge are the two landmarks that have been remarkable sites of 150 plus years of history here.   The Fort Riverview redoubt has in fact been noted as one of the only remaining pristine redoubts that exist.
